Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, welcomed the announcement by the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces of a cease-fire during the days of Eid Al-Fitr.
Jamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, stated that the ceasefire agreement will provide an opportunity to restore calm, allowing civilians to obtain basic needs, opening humanitarian corridors to deal with critical humanitarian cases, and enabling hospitals to operate.
The Spokesman referred to the humanitarian appeal launched by the Secretary-General on April 19, in which he appealed to the two parties to the conflict to cease fire during the Eid days.
He added that the Arab League stresses the need to build on the cease-fire to spare the blood of the Sudanese people.
