SpaceX confirmed that the Starship’s very heavy rocket had to be destroyed due to engine problems and a loss of altitude after liftoff.
“Flight termination orders have been issued for both the spacecraft and the booster,” the company said.
The Starship missile was launched yesterday from a site in Boca Chica on the Texas coast. About a minute after launch, it began to fall and spin, having lost its trajectory. When it rose to about 40 kilometers and had to drop the first stage, it exploded.
On Monday, the missile launch was canceled a few seconds before launch. The reason for this was problems with the fuel tank.
